Colourise Tutorial
This is a very quick simple way to colourise.
-
First Open your black and white image in Photoshop.
-
Then go to Image -> Mode -> RGB. CLICK HERE
-
Create a new layer CLICK HERE.
-
Then change layer mode to Soft Light. CLICK HERE
-
Find a colour suitable for skin tone, for the image you are colourising.
-
Take a soft basic brush and fill the areas that should be flesh coloured. Sometimes, you might get the desired look by trying the layer blending mode on overlay, burn or colour instead of soft light, and lowering the opacity. It’s really a case of trial and error, till it looks right. It also helps to zoom right in so you can be more precise.
-
Repeat this process for every bit of the image you want to colourise, ie lips, hair, eyes etc Each one should be on a new layer, so you can always adjust things if you need to. CLICK HERE
-
Once you are satisfied with the colours, you can then add other effects if you want to. Click on the images below for full size.
-
You can DOWNLOAD MY PSD FILE to see exactly how I achieved the end result before adding effects.
